The overcrowding of the jail is becoming even more problematic in the face of COVID-19 and efforts to stop the spread of the virus. The cost of housing one person per day in the jail is $ 65.57 according to the 2018 Montgomery County Office of Management & Budget. At full capacity the jail can spend up to $59,013 a day instead of a much lower $ 29,047 if the jail followed the recommended amount of people to intake. Additionally the budget for jail has been on the rise; the budget went from $871 million in 2019 to $914 million for 2020.
